What is Raranga Takapau?

Raranga Takapau is a new collaborative service designed by māmā for māmā, that offers holistic support for wāhine who have been impacted by maternal birth injuries.  This new postnatal service will launch at TŪ TONU in Kirikiriroa on Monday October 3rd.

TŪ TONU has partnered with key womens health providers to support whānau to have greater access to information and support for birth injuries.  Here is an informative article sharing more information on Pelvic Floor Muscle Damage, and the extent of often undetected birth trauma and injuries.  As indigenous māmā, we understand that physical injury during this critical time can be debilitating, and also impact wairua, mauri, hinengaro, ngākau, pēpi and whānau. If you or a loved one have recently given birth and are suffering from ongoing pain, prolapse, avlusion, incontinence or anything that just doesn't feel right, we can help.

How does it work?

After a thorough wānanga and initial assessment, and in ongoing consultation with your key support people, midwife and/or primary care practitioner, we will co-create a customised rehabilitation plan with you and weave a range of rehabilitation and support services around you and your whānau to assist your postnatal recovery.

Our services include pelvic health physiotherapy, rongoā Māori (mirimiri, romiromi, karakia and other forms of wairua, ngākau and hinengaro support), wound checks by a registered nurse, acupuncture, cupping, exercise rehabilitation, hydrotherapy, taonga pūoro sound healing, oriori and wānanga.

And when you're ready, we provide you and your whānau with strategies and a plan to self-manage from home.

Who can access Raranga Takapau?

Raranga Takapau is available to all, and FREE for wāhine Māori and Pasifika who have an approved ACC injury claim.  The good news is, from October 1st maternity birth injury coverage by ACC will be extending, and a claim can be lodged on your behalf by either your midwife or one of our primary practitioners on site at TŪ TONU.   If you're not sure if you're covered, reach out to our team - we're here to help.

Ko wai mātou?
